Korea has always been known for setting trends, whether it’s in fashion, beauty, music, or food. Lately, Korean dessert trends have completely taken over social media, with cafés and bakeries across the country selling viral sweets that people are lining up to try. These desserts have quickly become must-tries for both locals and tourists visiting Korea.

This week, we're introducing two of the hottest Korean desserts you absolutely need to try right now: Butter Tteok (버터떡) and the famous Dubai Chewy Cookie (두쫀쿠).

If you've been keeping up with Korean dessert trends online, chances are you've already seen Butter Tteok all over Instagram, TikTok, or Korean cafés. After the massive Dubai Chewy Cookie craze, Butter Tteok quickly became one of Korea's newest viral desserts.

So, what exactly is it?

Butter Tteok is a baked rice cake dessert with a crispy, golden-brown exterior and a soft, chewy mochi-like center. The contrast between the crunchy outer crust and the stretchy, chewy inside is exactly what has made this dessert so addictive and popular. Korean dessert lovers have especially been obsessed with chewy textures lately, which helped Butter Tteok explode in popularity.

The flavor itself is rich, buttery, slightly sweet, and often has hints of vanilla. Despite looking fancy, one of the best things about Butter Tteok is that it can actually be made quite easily at home. Many influencers and home bakers have been sharing their own recipes online using simple ingredients like glutinous rice flour, butter, milk, sugar, and eggs.

If you're looking to try this trending Korean dessert without turning on the oven, there are several great options available on Shuttle. Ediya Coffee (Pyeongtaek Songtan) offers both a Condensed Milk Butter Tteok and a Cheese Butter Tteok, each putting a unique spin on the viral treat.

Whether you try it at a trendy Korean café or make it yourself at home, Butter Tteok is definitely one of the must-try desserts in Korea right now.

Dubai Chewy Cookie

Before Butter Tteok took over social media, the Dubai Chewy Cookie, a.k.a. Dubai Chocolate Cookie, was arguably the biggest dessert trend in Korea reaching peak popularity around December 2025. Inspired by the viral Dubai Chocolate dessert trend, Korean bakeries quickly created their own versions, and it instantly became a hit.

Despite the name, this isn't your typical baked cookie. The Dubai Chewy Cookie is made with a soft, stretchy chocolate-marshmallow dough wrapped around a crunchy filling of pistachio cream and toasted kataifi, which is a shredded phyllo pastry often used in Middle Eastern desserts.

The combination of gooey, chewy, crunchy, and creamy textures is what made this dessert go viral across Korea. Since it can also be recreated at home, many local cafés and bakeries have started selling their own unique twists on the dessert.

If you're interested in trying the original-style trend for yourself, several cafés on Shuttle have jumped on the craze. Yogerpresso (Humphreys) offers their own version of the famous Dubai Chewy Cookie, making it easier than ever to see what all the hype is about.

Dubai Chocolate Inspired Desserts

The popularity of the Dubai Chewy Cookie has become so massive that many cafés have started incorporating its signature pistachio-and-chocolate flavor combination into entirely new desserts.

For cookie lovers, Chase'n Sweets offers a Dubai Chocolate Cookie, while Greek.C Yogurt has transformed the trend into a Dubai Chewy Cookie Chocolate Greek Yogurt Cake. If you're looking for something a little colder, Yoah Yoah Frozen Yogurt serves a Strawberry Chocolate Dubai Yogurt Ice Cream, and Greek Yogurt offers a refreshing Dubai Chocolate Yogurt Ice Cream.

These creative twists show just how influential the Dubai dessert trend has become in Korea, expanding far beyond the original chewy cookie.

Which Dessert Wins?

Both Butter Tteok and the Dubai Chewy Cookie have earned their place among Korea's hottest dessert trends in 2026, and each offers a completely different experience. Butter Tteok delivers a comforting combination of crispy and chewy textures with a rich buttery flavor, while the Dubai Chewy Cookie stands out with its indulgent mix of pistachio cream, chocolate, and crunchy kataifi.

Personally, I prefer Butter Tteok. While the Dubai Chewy Cookie is undeniably unique and filling, I found the pistachio cream and toasted kataifi a bit too rich for my taste. That said, both desserts are worth trying at least once, especially if you're curious about the latest Korean food trends.

Whether you're team Butter Tteok or team Dubai Chewy Cookie, there's never been a better time to explore Korea's ever-evolving dessert scene.
